Projector | Screen | Sound System Installation

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Ltd is the UK manufacturing operation of Toyota, established in December 1989. It’s large scale vehicle manufacturing plant at Burnaston, Derbyshire, assembles the latest hybrid production vehicles, producing a new car every sixty seconds.

NAV were approached by Toyota to design and install a bespoke audio visual solution allowing the management team to present key information to the production line floor at the Burnaston plant. The system had to be large enough for all 750 production line employees to be able to clearly see and hear the presentation content, which required a large screen and capable PA system.

Following careful measurement of the existing space, taking into account viewing requirements, NAV decided that a 4.5m wide screen would be the most suitable solution. As the location of the screen was at the end of the production line, the screen needed to fully retract into the ceiling, so that it didn’t cause an obstruction or interfere with the operation of a large roller shutter door. NAV therefore specified an electric retractable screen with a ceiling mounted winch system from Screen International and when not in use the screen and winch are fully retracted into the ceiling. Given the size of the screen and ambient factory lighting, a high specification of projector was required to ensure the image was bright enough. In addition, given the height at which the projector was to be installed, access to maintain the projector was limited. NAV therefore specified a maintenance free, high-brightness laser projector from Optoma, whichat over Full-HD resolution, provided sharp images, suitable for displaying content & text from spreadsheets and documents.

As the factory is in constant use five days per week, NAV installed the system over a weekend, ready for the first presentation a few days later. NAV’s IPAF trained staff, used an articulated boom lift to reach the internal ceiling and install the required cabling for the projector & screen and speaker system. The screen, its winch and the projector were fixed to the building RSJ structure. Appropriate safety fixings were also employed to ensure complete system safety and integrity.

Control of the AV system is accomplished using an SY Electronics button controller, which allows the user to turn the projector on/off and retract the screen via the winch system as required.
