Optometry Tomorrow Annual Conference

The College of Optometry is the professional body for UK optometrists. It qualifies the profession and delivers the guidance, development and training to ensure optometrists provide the best possible care. Their work includes raising awareness of the profession with the public, commissioners, and health care professionals whilst representing their members.

The Event

Optometry Tomorrow is an annual event and is the College’s main conference, AGM and exhibition. It is the UK’s leading optometric event and a must-attend conference for all professional optometrists. NAV have provided the Audio Visual support and associated conference production services for the conference since 2008.



The 2019 conference was held at the Metropole Hotel in Birmingham, it opened on a Sunday morning and ran for 2 full days until the Monday evening. The planning, site visits and production meetings started over 6 months in advance of our rigging team arriving early on the Saturday morning. Our team installed a twin screen branded set and stage system with full AV support, sound, lighting etc. Live cameras captured all the main sessions, which we then edit and process post event to provide a complete record of all the presentations. The main room is also streamed live through in to the exhibition hall, so none of 700 delegates need miss any of the valuable conference content.

To support the presenters prior to their time slots, we also facilitate a Slide-Prep Room, where one of our PowerPoint Operatives is always on-hand to format and assist the presenters with their presentation content in advance. This service is optional, but always welcomed by presenters, who can then be confident their content will seamlessly display when they are up on stage.

7x breakout syndicate rooms each with a full AV setup and dedicated technical support were also kept busy throughout 2 day conference schedule.

We also supported the power requirements in the adjacent exhibition space, providing 13 amp mains drops to each of the 47 exhibitors. The exhibition hall was sectioned by a white draping system to make the most of the available space in the room. Within the exhibition hall there were two ‘live presentation’ zones, rather than using the traditional low power PA set-up, our Project Manager suggested a silent-disco hire. We supplied silent disco wireless headsets with two separate channel transmissions, enabling the delegates to select and comfortably listen-in to their preferred content in the midst of the hustle and bustle of a packed exhibition hall.
