Go-Ahead are one of the leading public transport companies in the UK. The company facilitates over one billion passenger journeys each year, by bus and rail. They are the largest operator of buses in London, operating a quarter of the London bus fleet. Across the rest of the UK their regional bus services represent 11% of the overall UK market.
The ‘Women in Bus’ was a high profile event at a premier venue in Pall Mall, central London. Whilst 70% of bus passengers in the capital are female, women make up just 10% of the workforce. The Go-Ahead Group is looking to recruit an additional 1,000 women drivers by 2025. The recruitment drive was launched at this event.
The venue for the event had an AV system already in place; stage, lectern, projector and screen, whilst perfectly functional our client wanted to bring their corporate identity and some event branding to the stage. They also expressed a preference for the presenters to be able to use the whole of the stage area, this was not possible given the venue projector was front projection over the stage on to a retractable roller screen. NAV were recommended by a colleague in the business who had worked with us on another recent event, as an Event Production company ‘who were good to work with’ and would probably have a solution, we did!
After receiving the initial request for Conference Production support, we arranged a site visit at the London venue to assess what was possible. Given the room layout and the AV equipment that was installed, we looked at various options to make the most of what was already in the room, whilst fulfilling the clients brief. It was clear only a rear projection (the projector behind the screen rather than in-front) would allow the full width of the venue stage to be used by the presenters. However, the event was already at capacity with an invited audience, meaning there was limited space available for a traditional rear projection set-up.
With this in mind our Project Manager recommended an ultra-short throw lens – the Panasonic ET-DLE030. With one of our hire RZ970 Laser Projectors, rear projected on to a 2.5m wide screen with a branded conference backdrop. The ET-DLE lens allowed for a projection distance of just 1m, thus maximising the room and stage space, allowing the full width of the stage to be used.
We had the event and corporate branding vinyl cut and applied to the conference backdrop in our workshop in advance to minimise the set-up time on the morning. LED up-lighting on both the backdrop and throughout the room created the branded corporate ambiance the client was looking for. Our Event Technicians also connected to the venue system to make use of the relay monitors around the room.
